Lessons Learned: Getting Preschoolers Set for School

Lessons Learned: Getting Preschoolers Set for School

The Big Preschool Prep – It is never too early to prep your preschooler for primary. Though it may only be February, if you have a pre-school aged child, it's also the last February (and March, and April, etc.) you'll spend together before he or she heads off to “big” school in the fall.

Yes, Start Now – Next month will mark 6 months before he or she will strap that adorable backpack on and head on to wonderful, where-did-the-time-go adventures. Right now is as perfect a time as any to begin preparing him or her (and yourself!) for the big moment.

Ready, Set, Do! – We've put together a handy checklist of must-do's. Worry not, though. We at Oxford are here to help, starting today, with our Little Readers program aimed at pre-school aged children.

Self Awareness: Help your child memorize basic information about him or herself such as the correct spelling of his or her name, age, address, and phone number.

Motor Skills: Learning how to hold pencils and cut with scissors – very important little skills to master!

ABC's: Letter names and sounds

Writing: Proper letter and number formation is critical for success in school.

Numbers: Recognition and counting

Social Adaptation: Focus on your child's social life, as children who are comfortable working in groups do the best.

And, most essential of all…

Expand Their Minds: While it is imperative to informally begin to teach your child about concepts as well as practicing numbers and letters as you go about your daily lives, a great approach to a little more structure is, you guessed it – Little Readers! Contact us today for more information about this fantastic program offered at both our Bedford and Halifax locations.
