Let’s Decorate: Simple Holiday Decor

The holiday season is a busy one, and though we may have the best intentions to decorate early, there are often lots of things that get in the way.  Tying up loose ends at work before the long Christmas vacation, finding time to stand in the never ending line at the post office to mail packages or shopping for the inevitable last minute gifts sometimes take priority to decking the halls.  I have a few quick and easy decorations that will make your home feel more festive if all the other things have gotten in the way so far. This is a take on a floral arrangement.  It requires only 4 items, all of which I have around my house this time of year, but at most, you’ll need to buy some nuts. Fill a glass vase with walnuts, but near the top, arrange 2 silver ornaments on the outside so you can see the sparkle.  I’ve used 2 silver birds that my daughter picked out this year.  Once you have the vase filled, snip a few pine branches from the yard (or you can buy them at the local nursery) and arrange them like flowers.   That’s it!  How easy is that?  It takes about 5 minutes! This is one that I used as a decoration at my daughters’ school for our annual Breakfast with Santa.  It was displayed on the ticket table at the entrance and everyone loved it!  It would be beautiful on a mantle, a console table, or as a centerpiece on the dinner table.  You will need mason jars and a couple other jars of different sizes (like empty pickle jars, etc), a bag of fake snow, and those little trees that are used to decorate Christmas villages.  Just glue the base of the tree to the lid of the jar using a glue gun, put some snow in the jar, attach the lid, and that’s it.  Once they are arranged, you can add some more now around the base and even some lights.  There were a few things to buy here, but again, this one took 5 minutes from start to finish. Why not try framing a few Christmas prints and displaying them on your mantle like this.  There are so many free downloadable prints that your options are limitless.  Find the ones you like and print them off.  You can buy some new frames or some reuse some that you already have.  Add a few boughs of greenery, some Christmas bulbs or holly sprigs and you’re done.  So simple, and another 5 minute fix! If you have a simple, quick, beautiful Christmas decor solution, I’d love to see.  Merry Christmas!   Wendy Monaghan, Interior Decorator and owner of Link Interiors, creates homes where life and style co-exist with flair.   She believes that a functional space allows families to have more quality time together and that children and all of their stuff can live in a beautiful home.  She is the mother of 2 fabulous HRM girls, aged 8 & 5.  For more information or to contact Wendy, visit her website, www.linkinteriors.ca ...
