Let the Adventures Continue

Labour Day weekend is here. It has always been the last (long) weekend of “summer” because school always started the week after Labour Day for us. I wish I was out camping right now, because that’s what I grew up doing – going camping on the Labour Day long weekend; hiking, reading, putting on fleece sweaters to roast marshmallows over the last campfires of summer.

The long weekend at the end of August/beginning of September is always a transitional time. It is when hot weather starts getting cooler. It is when adventure makes way for routine.

Did you have a summer full of adventure? We stayed pretty tame as a family. Our vacation was short and mostly filled with a visit from my mother-in-law. But I did get out on a kayaking adventure with my coworkers.

At 16 weeks pregnant, I fit myself in a kayak and paddled to a remote island for a lobster bake. This maritimer has never actually learned to eat a lobster whole, and so taking on that challenge was a whole other (delicious) adventure for me.

I used to kayak often in the summers, when I was a teenager. I loved it and had big plans to spend a whole summer kayaking around the waterways of my province. But adulthood brought a requirement to work instead of the freedom for adventure I was hoping. These days, adventure means taking trips to the beach or small day trips with the family instead of rappelling and camping. And that’s okay. Because I’ve come to realize that parenthood is another adventure all to itself.

Summer is ending but that doesn’t mean the adventures need to stop. To instill a sense of adventure in our kids, Netflix has some great titles that will make our kids want to get up and try new things. We can keep the sense of adventure going all year round!

  1. Dora The Explorer
  2. Wild Animal Baby Explorers
  3. Tree Fu Tom
  4. Rubbadubbers: Tubb’s Pirate Treasure
  5. A Turtle’s Tale: Sammy’s Adventures
  6. The Hive

I am a member of Netflix’s Stream Team and as such I have been compensated with a complementary Netflix subscription and a few other perks. The stories and opinions are all my own and have not been bought.
