“Libra” 3-drawer chest by South Shore recalled due to tip-over hazard

Product description: This recall involves “Libra” 3-drawer chests offered in 9 different colours. The model number is printed on the label affixed to the back of the unit. The unit measures 70 cm (27.5 inches) in height, 80 cm (31.25 inches) in width and 40 cm (15.5 inches) in depth and weighs approximately 25 kg (56 pounds).

Some chests have also been sold as part of a bedroom furniture set under the following model numbers. Note that the other items in these bedroom sets have not been recalled

Hazard identified: The recalled chests may tip over if not securely anchored to the wall, posing an entrapment hazard that can result in serious injury or death to children. As of April 30, 2019, the company has received no reports of the chest tipping over in Canada. In the United States, two incident reports, one involving a death and one involving minor injuries, have been reported to South Shore Furniture.

Consumers should stop using the chest and contact the company to receive a free repair kit to anchor the unit to the wall. Consumers can contact the company at 1-855-215-4932 Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Service is available in French, English and Spanish.
