| Nova Scotia SPCA release: A van can be more than a large vehicle on wheels, nowhere more so than at the Nova Scotia SPCA. Thanks to a $87,500 Companions for Change™ sponsorship from Pet Valu, Canada’s leading pet specialty retailer, the SPCA’s animal transport vehicle will continue the good work it does to help animals and families in need. “Our animal transport vehicle helps in so many ways,” says Heather Woodin, Chief Animal Officer at the Nova Scotia SPCA. “From safe transport to emergencies like the wildfires, to community engagement, the vehicle helps us travel with food and supplies for communities and bring animals to safety. This latest sponsorship from Pet Valu’s Companions for Change program will ensure the Nova Scotia SPCA can continue to respond and help in big ways.” An original sponsorship of $100,000 from Pet Valu in 2019 helped the Nova Scotia SPCA launch its custom-designed animal transport vehicle. The renewed support will keep the van on the road for the next five years. “Each of our Animal Care Experts feel a moment of pride every time they see the Nova Scotia SPCA’s transport van on the road as our store, along with stores across the province with the support of our devoted pet lovers, helped raise the funds that contribute to renewing this sponsorship,” say franchisees Wilf & Lina Clarke, Pet Valu Spring Garden Road store. “Pet Valu created Companions for Change sponsorships to help deserving Canadian animal organizations achieve large capital projects. We’ve seen firsthand the vital support the Nova Scotia SPCA provides to pets in need, and we’re thrilled they are the recipient of a second sponsorship.” The van has helped to transport over 500 animals and travelled the equivalent of 57 round-trip trips from one end of the province to the other. The vehicle has assisted in two evacuations from the Cape Breton shelter, and in the Tantallon and Shelburne wildfires, delivering food and supplies to displaced pets and their families. In addition to their support of the animal transport vehicle, Pet Valu stores across the province support their local Nova Scotia SPCA shelter all year long with pet donation drives and in-store adoption events. “With no government funding for our animal care, we are grateful to all the donors who help us help thousands of animals a year,” says Woodin. “Pet Valu always shows up for pets in our care, and we are very appreciative.” |
