Leo (July 23-August 21)

2016 is the year all those possibilities you’ve been dreaming of could come true. Have an open mind and be true to yourself because 2016 is your time to shine! This is also a year to focus on friends and family but make sure to save enough time for you. Going out with friends can help you find that relationship you are looking for. 2016 will be a year to remember!

A great series to try this year is Tamora Pierce’s The Song of the Lioness. Her adventure starts when Alanna, the main character, disguises herself as a boy and takes her brother’s place as a squire. Alanna wants to be a knight even though it is unheard of for a girl. Follow her story as she works towards her dreams.

You might also enjoy reading stories of friendship this year. A graphic novel that I really enjoyed is Monster on the Hill by Rob Harrell. Stoker-on-Avon is a town dissatisfied with its monster. In a world where town monsters are a source of pride he is falling down on the job. No townspeople are scared and he is frankly more moody than fearsome. Monster on the hill is the story of Rayburn and his quest to become the best monster that he can be with the help of his friends.

Another great read for Leo this year is Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, which I think is a geeky wonderland. This book has it all; virtual reality, geeky references, friendship, dystopian struggle, romance… Wade Watts, the main character, spends all his free time trying to solve the world’s biggest Easter egg in OASIS, a virtual reality game. After solving the first clue he is part of a worldwide race to solve the puzzle and not everyone is playing fair. With his life on the line can Wade figure out the clues before everyone else?

Virgo (August 23 – September 22)

Hey Virgin! 2016 looks like a prime time to evaluate and build on all the relationships in your life. Sounds like work I know, but on the bright side it also looks like you’ll see a boom in your social life so it may not be so bad. Perhaps all that talk of feelings will agree with you. If you’ve been contemplating making changes in your life, this is the time to take action and follow through. Stop thinking, and do.

When it comes to love you’ll find yourself looking back with longing, either to an old flame or just for that feeling you use to have. Here’s one to help ease that nostalgic yearning, Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami. For those of you who have living blood relatives, you may see a lot more of them than usual this year. Here’s a book, The Correctionsby Jonathan Franzen, to remind you that they’re really not so bad, but if they are, well, it makes for good novel material.

I encourage you to take a break from serving others,Virgo, and focus more on you. And again I say, do something. Whether it is journaling, poetry readings, binge shopping, or whatever floats your boat, go for it this year, and stop putting your desires aside to appease others.

Why not give that over-analytical Virgo mind a break and take a trip through Kurt Vonnegut’s, Cat’s Cradle? And if at any point you feel yourself itching to organize someone’s closet how about you pick up Kazuo Ishiguro’s, The Remains of the Day, and head to your (metaphorical) spa instead?
