Mamas across Canada have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of LittleEcoFootPrint’s February “baby love box” so how excited we all were when it landed on our doorstep! We could finally see what was in store and as suspected, the little eco-friendly box of natural goodies was a wonderful surprise!

This month’s “baby love box” included a really great selection of products to enjoy along with a booklet of green tips, tricks and recipes from all the LittleEcoFootPrint team of experts on healthy smoothies, safe sleeping environments, mixing health with motherhood (and a free online fitness/nutrition workshop), non-toxic playdough and better babywearing.

But the really fun part getting to try all the natural, eco-friendly products included in the box. Here’s an overview of what was inside!

The Pumpkin Seed creates small batches of 100% natural skincare products for eco-chic mamas. Their collection includes facial oils, healing salves, facial cleansers and everything is free of preservatives, chemicals, fragrances and artificial colors. The LittleEcoFootprint box included their Mama Cream that’s made with cocoa, pumpkin, shea butter, rosehip oil, grapeseed oil and vitamin e! It’s very moisturizing – perfect for this cold weather – so I’ve thrown my jar in my purse to use on my cuticles. It’s especially nice before throwing a pair of mitts on to lock in all that moisture!

The first thing that my boys grabbed for was the Handmade Wooden Jalopy Car by Bannor Toys. All of their wooden toys are hand made from beginning to end; nothing is mass produced and all their wood is sustainably harvested. It’s the perfect size for tiny hands (my boys are 3 and 5) and zooms across the hardwood super fast and smooth.

Gaia skincare was also a brand I was looking forward to trying and the box included a ton of sample sized lotions for myself and my boys to try. Their products are free of artificial fragrance, petrochemicals and mineral oils, lanolin and phthalates, soap, sulphates and other drying agents in our cleansers, paraben preservatives and propylene glycol so I had no worries when trying the lotions on my boys. I found them to be a little too light for the cold, dry Alberta air, but in the warmer months this line of natural moisturizers will be fantastic. They have a really nice light, calming lavender and almost citrusy scent without being overbearing. The soothing skin lotion can be used as a diaper cream to keep skin soft so I’ll be trying it at nighttime with our cloth diapers.

I never would have expected music to be included in the box so I was thrilled to see a childrens folk CD: Caspar Babypants!  I’m always looking for new music for my children to listen to througout the day during our playtime, crafttime and drives and this one was great! These high quality sing along simple acoustic songs were easy to listen to and especially enjoyed by my 3 year old! The Caspar Babypants cds are $12.99.

Another pleasant surprise was the EcoParent Magazine. EcoParent is a quarterly magazine for families that want to make healthier, greener lifestyle choices without being judgemental or alarmist. It contains a wide scope of articles that cover food, fashion, books, travel, health & beauty, home & garden and more! A very nice magazine to leaf through over tea.

I’m well beyond the teething stage but was very happy to see such a useful accessory included for moms, specifically the teething necklaces that have been getting rave reviews by moms! Teething Bling is the original teething jewelry made from the same FDA-approved material as most teething toys, our pendants and bangles look great on the adult wearer but are safe for curious babies to handle and chew. Included in the box was an exclusive heart shaped teething necklace.

As a little treat, chocolate was also included (and quickly stashed away for mama!) by Mercury Chocolates that are pure and made with simple ingredients: dark cacoa, milk and cane sugar!
