REPLAY: North End Matters, Wed Nov 28 2012

This week’s special edition of North End Matters welcomes back Norman
Greenberg of the Community Carrot Co-op. As some of you may know, the
Community Carrot Co-op has been working hard to open a store that will bring
fresh and healthy grocery options to the North End.
The Co-op is in the final rounds of the Aviva Community Fund’s fundraising competition
and needs all of the help it can get. With that in mind, North End Matters would like
to discuss why the Community Carrot Co-op is so important for the North End.
As we all know, ease of access to fresh and healthy groceries is an
important determinant of the health for any community. The North End
contains a dense population of working families, elderly people and,
individuals who do not have easy access to healthy foods. For the elderly, a
trip to the grocery store can be a perilous and tiresome experience. A trip
to the grocery store can be tiresome for families and may also reduce the
amount of hours that could be used for other family activities. And,
finally, what about those of us who are suffering from various forms of
disability? For many disabled or injured people, there is a small window of
time that their bodies may agree to function enough to get to the grocery
store. For all of the parties mentioned above, accessing fresh and healthy
foods can become a stressful experience. The Community Carrot Co-op is one
answer to these issues.
North End Matters is happy to welcome back Norman this week. Norman is not
only working hard to make the Co-op a reality, but he has also put his
energy into many other initiatives that have had a positive impact on some
of the most vulnerable members of our community. We’ll discuss Norman’s past
and present projects on this week’s show.
North End Matters is a live-streamed, online talk show that brings in policy
makers and service providers to discuss upcoming changes in the North End.
