Local hospital receives national recognition for meritorious outcomes from the American College of Surgeons

NSHA release:

Aberdeen Hospital has been named one of 76 hospitals in North America to achieve meritorious outcomes for surgical patient care in 2024, through the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP).

The hospital was recognized on the “All Cases” Meritorious list, which honours hospitals that demonstrate outstanding composite quality scores across eight clinical outcome areas including mortality, infection rates, cardiac incidents, and respiratory complications.

“This recognition reflects the hard work, collaboration, and commitment of our surgical teams and quality improvement staff at Aberdeen Hospital,” said Alana Toole, director of Perioperative, Endoscopy, and Medical Device Reprocessing for the Northern Zone. “We’ve worked hard to embed data-driven decision-making into our daily practice.”

The 76 recognized hospitals were drawn from a pool of 609 ACS NSQIP-eligible hospitals. Sixty hospitals made the “All Cases” list, with Aberdeen among them.

“As the NSQIP Lead for the Northern Zone, I’m so proud of Aberdeen Hospital for this well-deserved recognition,” said Dr. Ahmed Jad. “Aberdeen’s success sets a wonderful example for other hospitals in the Northern Zone.”

ACS NSQIP measures surgical results 30 days after procedures and adjusts for patient risk factors to allow for fair comparisons across institutions. The program is currently active in over 850 hospitals across North America.

The American College of Surgeons is a scientific and educational organization founded in 1913 with approximately 90,000 members worldwide.
