HHB release:
Halifax Harbour Bridges (HHB) advises the public that the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge
will be closed to all traffic from 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25 until 5:30 a.m. on
Monday, April 28.
This closure includes vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. The sidewalk and bike lane
will not be accessible during this period. Bus tickets will be availabe to inconvenienced
bridge crossers at the Macdonald Bridge Operations Centre in the administration
building on the Dartmouth side and from Traffic Control on the Halifax side.
The weekend closure is required to accommodate construction work above the bridge
deck as part of Project LifeSpan – a two-year, $70-million initiative to preserve and
protect the bridge towers and extend the life of the bridge. This essential work is being
completed with public safety and long-term infrastructure sustainability in mind.
A second weekend closure may be required, but no date has been scheduled. Another
advisory will be issued if needed.
HHB appreciates the public’s patience and understanding as work gets uderway. Traffic
delays are expected. Bridge users are encouraged to plan alternate routes and allow
additional travel time to reach their destinations.
