MacLean, Livingstone, Delaney and Disability Rights Coalition of Nova Scotia v. Province of Nova Scotia Hearing Resumes

The independent Nova Scotia human rights board of inquiry in the case of Beth MacLean, Sheila Livingstone, Joseph Delaney and the Disability Rights Coalition of Nova Scotia v. Province of Nova Scotia, resumed today, March 12.

The complaint to the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission was brought on behalf of some residents living in an institutionalized setting who have mental and/or physical disabilities. They allege that living in this setting is discriminatory and that they should be housed in small options homes instead.

The hearing will continue until Thursday, March 15. Additional hearing dates will be announced in the future.

Proceedings will take place at the Chocolate Lake Best Western, 250 St. Margarets Bay Rd. beginning at 9:30 a.m.

The board chair is J. Walter Thompson, who is independent of the commission. The commission is not representing either party. It represents the public interest.
