Major Health Construction Projects to be Managed by New Division of Nova Scotia Lands

The delivery of the QEII redevelopment project and the recently announced CBRM Health Care Redevelopment Plan will be led by a new division of Nova Scotia Lands, a Crown entity that focuses on major construction and remediation projects.

“These are two of the largest and most complex infrastructure construction projects in Nova Scotia’s recent history and, as such, require the appropriate organizational structure and capacity to deliver them for Nova Scotians,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Minister Lloyd Hines.

This is the first time in at least two decades this province has engaged in major health care redevelopment. After considerable review, and based on best practices, it was determined departments did not have appropriate capacity and expertise to deliver these projects in a timely manner.

The new Health Capital Delivery branch of Nova Scotia Lands will have a dedicated project team to deliver these two, extraordinary projects that will modernize and improve services for Nova Scotians. About $6 million annually has been budgeted for the branch for the duration of the projects.

The new branch will report to the departments of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal and Health and Wellness.
