Halifax Regional Police has charged a man and a female youth as a result of an extortion investigation.
On May 25, a 22-year-old man attended Police Headquarters to report that he was receiving threatening messages from an unknown man after meeting a female youth, whom he believed to be an adult. After a brief relationship, the man began to receive threatening messages and demands for money from the unknown man and female youth.
Investigators with the Integrated General Investigation Section of the Criminal Investigation Division arrested a 33-year-old man and a 17-year-old female youth, both from Halifax, on July 21. The man was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on August 30. The 17-year-old female youth was also released on promise to appear and is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Youth Court August 18.
