Man arrested after crash, red-light run and police chase

HRP release:

On August 31 at approximately 3:15 p.m., officers responded to a two-vehicle collision in the 30 block of Fairfax Drive in Halifax. Upon arrival, one of the drivers involved saw police walking toward him and then reversed into a power pole and drove off at a high rate of speed. The vehicle proceeded to run a red light and hit additional vehicles in its attempts to flee.

Officers engaged in a brief pursuit but quickly stopped due to heavy traffic and safety concerns.

With assistance from the RCMP, members were able to locate the vehicle on Riverview Drive in Tantallon. The suspect was arrested without further incident.

There were no reports of physical injuries.

A 30-year-old man is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court at a later date to face

charges of:

Operation of a conveyance while impaired


Failure to stop after an accident


Dangerous operation of a conveyance


Flight from peace officer


Mischief
