Man Arrested After Fleeing Police

At approximately 3:45 am members of the Halifax Regional Police noticed a Chev Pickup truck with a red ATV in the back, on Herring Cove Rd near Lynette Rd in Halifax. As there had been recent ATV thefts in the area, officers attempted to stop the vehicle by activating their emergency equipment, however, the vehicle failed to stop. A traffic pursuit was initiated but called off as it was within a residential neighborhood.  The vehicle was seen travelling along North West Arm Dr where the pursuit was started again.  The vehicle drove over the center median and onto the wrong side of North West Arm Dr for a short period of time but then returned to the proper side of the road.  As an officer were attempting to deploy a spike belt, in the area of North West Arm Dr and Walter Havill Dr, the vehicle swerved toward the officer just before driving over the spike belt.  The vehicle slowed as a result but did not stop.   The vehicle continued onto Highway 102 outbound and a second spike belt was deployed near Larry Uteck Blvd. The vehicle eventually slowed and stopped on Highway 102 before Hammonds Plains Road. The driver was taken into custody without incident.  A 20 year old man from Halifax will appear in Halifax Provincial Court on Monday February 1st 2016 charged with Flight from Police, Assault with a weapon (which is the motor vehicle), Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
