Man arrested after officer assaulted during disturbance

RCMP release:

Lunenburg District RCMP has arrested a man after responding to a disturbance at a home in East Chester.

On August 23, 2023, at approximately 5:10 p.m., Lunenburg District RCMP responded to a report of an unwanted person who was causing a disturbance in a home on Stevens Rd. in East Chester. RCMP officers located a 28-year-old man in the home and placed him under arrest, however the man became combative and a struggle ensued. During the struggle, the man assaulted an officer multiple times and threatened the officer’s family. A conducted energy weapon (CEW) was successfully deployed, which allowed officers to gain control of the man and secure him.

The 28-year-old East Chester man was later released on conditions and will be facing charges of Assaulting a Police Officer, Uttering Threats (2 counts) and Resisting Arrest. He will appear in Bridgewater Provincial Court on November 15, 2023, at 9:30 a.m.

Both our officer and the man suffered minor injuries, however neither required medical attention.
