Man arrested after wrong-way drive downtown

HRP release:

On September 6 at approximately 3:20 a.m., officers observed a vehicle travelling northbound on Argyle Street where it is marked for southbound traffic only. The driver of the vehicle then attempted to drive through the locked gate that is in place to restrict vehicle traffic through Argyle Street.

Officers tried to get the driver’s attention by activating their patrol vehicle’s emergency lights and siren, but the driver continued to pass them. Officers exited their vehicle and gave both physical and verbal commands to the driver to stop. Upon speaking with the driver, they believed him to be impaired and he was arrested.

A 33-year-old man is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court at a later date to face charges of operation of a conveyance while impaired by alcohol or drugs and operation of a conveyance while impaired by alcohol over 80MG.
