Man charged after threatening Transit driver while trying to start bus, home invasion, attempted carjacking

HRP release:

Halifax Regional Police has charged a man in relation to an assault, uttering threats and a break and enter that occurred in Halifax last week.

On September 21, at approximately 10 p.m. Halifax Regional Police responded to the Halifax Transit Lacewood Terminal for a report of an assault. A man entered one of the buses and demanded the driver exit the bus, threatening to harm him if he didn’t. The driver attempted to use the radio to call for assistance but was stopped by the man, causing damage to the radio.

After unsuccessfully attempting to start the bus, the man exited the bus and left on foot. A short distance away, near the intersection of Lacewood Drive and Radcliffe Drive, he attempted to enter another vehicle that was driving by. The man opened the vehicle door but was not successful in gaining entry and the driver was able to drive away. At that time, the man headed down Radcliffe Drive on foot.

While searching for the man, officers received a report of a break and enter on Lancaster Drive. While on scene, officers located a man who matched the description of the man involved in the incident at the bus terminal. The man had forced himself into the home, demanded the occupants give him the keys to their vehicle, threatened them and assaulted them. A man and a woman were located at the scene with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. The man was transported to the hospital by EHS for treatment.
