Man charged after assaulting police officers

A man is facing charges after attempting to sell a stolen cell phone in Halifax.

Yesterday, at approximately, 1:30 p.m., patrol officers responded to the area of Kaye and Young Streets for a complaint of stolen property. The caller reported seeing his stolen cell phone advertised for sale on an online classified site and had arranged to meet the suspect to buy the phone. Officers located the suspect at this location and when they attempted to arrest him, he resisted and began to fight with officers. He was taken to the ground and a conductive energy weapon (CEW) was used but the suspect still would not comply and continued to fight with officers. Numerous other officers arrived on-scene and the suspect was finally subdued and taken into custody. The stolen cell phone was also recovered and the officers were not injured.

Twenty-eight-year-old Jedidiah Fortune, faces charges of resisting arrest, obstruction, possession of stolen property, attempting to disarm a police officer, uttering threats, two counts of assaulting a police officer and four counts of breaching a previously imposed court order. He has been held overnight and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court today.
