Officers have charged a man after a victim’s name was publicly posted on social media, in breach of a court-imposed publication ban.
On July 31, following the conviction of an accused facing sexual assault charges in a 2011 file in Halifax, Halifax Regional Police received complaints that an individual had posted the victim’s name on a Facebook page. The identity of the victim was protected by a publication ban issued by the courts when the sexual assault charge was originally laid.
The investigation culminated earlier today when a 62-year-old Dartmouth man was served at his residence with an appearance notice to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on November 4. He faces a charge of breaching a publication ban under Section 276.3(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
