Man charged after falsely reporting to 9-1-1

Officers have charged a man after he called 9-1-1 to falsely report a robbery in progress.
At 9:59 a.m., officers responded to a reported armed robbery in progress in the 1600 block of Bedford Highway. A man called 9-1-1 and reported that another man had just robbed him of his wallet at knife-point. A number of officers converged to the area and located the caller, along with another man standing outside a business, in the parking lot. It was determined that the caller was in a dispute with the man over the sale of a used vehicle and that he falsely reported being robbed in order to have a faster police response to his complaint. No knife was involved and no one was injured.
The original 9-1-1 caller, A 34-year-old Halifax man, was arrested at the scene without incident. He has since been released from custody and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date to face a charge of public mischief.
9-1-1 is for emergencies only. If someone’s health, safety or property is threatened and help is needed right away, call 9-1-1. Emergencies include fires, serious collisions, crimes in progress, emergency medical situations and poisoning.
