Man charged after two weapons incidents in Spring Garden Road area

Police have charged a man in relation to a robbery and a weapons incident that occurred earlier this week in Halifax.

On August 29 at approximately 9:30 p.m. officers responded to a weapons complaint in the area of Spring Garden Road and Queen Street. A man approached two men who were not known to him and threatened them with what was believed to be a handgun. The victims fled the area. Officers arrested the suspect in the area and seized a replica firearm.

A short time later, police received a report of a similar incident that had occurred in the area of Spring Garden Road and Brunswick Street at approximately 9:20 p.m. In this incident, the suspect showed the handgun to two men who were not known to him and demanded money.

There were no reported physical injuries to any of the victims.

Kenneth Dawson Ashford, 19, was scheduled to appear yesterday in Halifax Provincial Court today to face charges of:

Robbery
Possession of a weapon (x 2)
Using an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence (x 2)
Assault with a weapon
Breach of court order (x 4)
