Man charged with animal cruelty

Tyai Lowe, 21, of Halifax, has been charged with willfully and without lawful excuse to killing, maiming, wounding, poisoning or injuring a dog that is kept for lawful purpose contrary to Section 445(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada along with willfully causing unnecessary pain, suffering or injury to a dog contrary to section 445.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

On December 27, 2019, the Nova Scotia SPCA responded to a complaint that involved a dog at a veterinary clinic with undetermined medical conditions in need of immediate assistance. The dog was later pronounced deceased. SPCA Enforcement Officers transported the dog to the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture’s pathology lab where a necropsy was performed. Animal cruelty charges were laid as a result of the Nova Scotia SPCA’s thorough investigation.

Lowe is scheduled to appear at Halifax Provincial Court at 9:30am on February 19, 2021. The Nova Scotia SPCA has a zero-tolerance policy for animal cruelty and neglect.
