Man charged with assaulting police officer and break and enter

Halifax Regional Police have charged a man with assault police officer and break and enter after an incident last evening in Halifax.

At 8:15 p.m., an off-duty HRP officer was notified that a man was breaking into a home in the 2300 block of Creighton Street. The officer located the man inside the home, identified himself as a police officer and escorted the man out of the home. When they reached the sidewalk, the man kicked the officer and tried to punch him. The man was taken into custody after a struggle, which resulted in the man receiving a fractured nose. He was treated and released from hospital. The incident was referred to the Serious Incident Response Team, however they determined the man’s injury did not meet their threshold to investigate.

Forty-one-year old Steven Probert is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to face charges of assault police officer, break and enter and two counts of breach of probation.
