Man charged with DUI, woman tries to exit moving vehicle

RCMP release:

Annapolis District RCMP has arrested a man for several offences and seized his vehicle after he fled from a traffic stop in Spa Springs.

On August 31, officers responded to a report of an assault taking place in a moving vehicle on Victoria Rd. Further information was then provided that the female passenger was trying to exit the still moving vehicle.

Police located the vehicle, a blue Honda Civic, and attempted a traffic stop on Hwy. 362. The driver did not pull over. Based on concern for the safety of the passenger, the officer followed the vehicle. The officer then observed the driver fail to make a righthand turn back onto Victoria Rd. from Hwy. 362 and crashed into the ditch. There were no injuries or infrastructuredamage reported from the crash.

The driver of the vehicle, a 25-year-old Lake Charlotte man, was safely arrested for Assault, Flight from Police, and Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance. He showed signs of impairment when interacting with the officer, and provided a breath sample to assess blood alcohol level. The outcome of this breath test was a “warn,” resulting in a seven-day license suspension. His vehicle was also impounded.

The man was released by police on conditions pending future court appearances.

Anyone who observes dangerous driving behaviour on Nova Scotia roads is encouraged to contact 911. Call takers will ask for information related to the make and model of the vehicle, location and direction of travel, and details about the dangerous actions so that officers can attempt to locate the vehicle and driver involved.
