The RCMP Northeast Nova Major Crime Unit has charged a man with murder after a fatal motor vehicle collision on on Denoon St. in Pictou.
At approximately 9:55 p.m. on June 3, Pictou County District RCMP responded to a report of a collision involving a pick-up truck and a pedestrian at an intersection on Denoon St. in Pictou. The pedestrian, a 56-year-old Pictou man was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the pick-up truck, a 40-year-old Pictou man, was safely arrested and transported to the Pictou Detachment where he was held in custody.
Vernon Edward Gallant, 40, of Pictou, has been charged with Second Degree Murder and appeared before a Justice of the Peace, via teleconference on June 4. Gallant was remanded into custody and appeared in Pictou Provincial Court today, where he was again remanded into custody. His next appearance will be in Pictou Provincial Court on July 14, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing and is being assisted by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Office, RCMP Forensic Identification Services, RCMP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Pictou County District RCMP.
