Man charged with sexual assault

Police have charged a man in relation to a sexual assault that occurred in Halifax earlier this week.

On September 14 police received a report of a sexual assault that had occurred at residence in Halifax. A man sexually assaulted a youth under 16 years of age with whom he was acquainted.

On September 16 investigators arrested the suspect on Nantucket Avenue in Dartmouth without

incident. Dequone Anthony Lethbridge, 19, of Dartmouth, is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to face charges of aggravated sexual assault and sexual interference.

Sexual assault investigations are complex. As part of our victim-centered, trauma-informed approach to sexualized violence, we work closely with victims, and in the case of youths, their parents or guardians. Police must also ensure the victim’s privacy is upheld and their well-being is fully considered.
