Man Charged With Uttering Threats

Halifax Regional Police has charged a Halifax man for uttering threats against two people last week.

At approximately 2:40 p.m. on August 20, police received information that a man had made threats against two Halifax residents with connections to a local university. With the assistance of Colchester RCMP, Stephen Gregory Tynes (age 30) was located and arrested in Truro at approximately 8:20 p.m. HRP officers travelled to Truro and transported Mr. Hynes to Halifax where he was held in custody.
Mr. Tynes appeared in Halifax Provincial Court on August 21 to face two counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and, one count of engaging in threatening conduct directed at the other person or any member of their family. He was then remanded but was released on conditions today by a Provincial Court Judge following a bail hearing. His conditions are as follows:
  •  Attend court as and when directed.
  •  Reside in Truro with his father unless permission to reside elsewhere is obtained from the Court.
  •  Have no direct or indirect contact or communication with the victims, except through a lawyer.
  •  Not to have in his possession any firearm, cross-bow, prohibited weapon, restricted weapon, prohibited device, ammunition or explosive substance.
  •  He may not possess, use or consume any alcoholic beverages, and  not possess, use or consume a controlled substance as defined by the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act except in  accordance with a physician’s prescription for him or, a legal authorization.
  •  Do not be on or within 25 kilometres of the 5900 block of University Avenue, Halifax, N.S., except when in the immediate physical company of his father or, mother or, his lawyer  and except for medical emergencies involving his father or mother.
