Man crashes car fleeing from police

Police have charged a man for weapons and impaired driving offences in relation to an incident that occurred on the weekend.

At approximately 11:10 a.m. on April 17, police responded to a report of a possible impaired driver in a parking lot in the 100 block of Kearney Lake Road in Halifax. Officers stopped the vehicle; however, it then fled at a high rate of speed and crashed a short distance away. Officers arrested the driver and seized a loaded handgun. No one was injured during the incident.

Andrew Jason Hudder, 34, is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to face charges of:

  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Unsafe storage contrary to regulations
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm knowing it is unauthorized
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • Tampering with a serial number
  • Possession of weapons contrary to a prohibition order (x 4)
  • Operation of a conveyance while impaired
  • Flight from police
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Refusal of breath demand
