Halifax Regional Police were called to the area of Almon Street and Windsor Street in relation to a report of an injured woman screaming from a car to call police.
Shortly after 8:00 pm officers located the vehicle in the area and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop and attempted to flee from police heading eastbound across the peninsula.
The driver attempted to evade police for 2.6 kilometers before he was arrested in the area of the 100 block of Connor Lane. There were no injuries reported and no damage to any of the involved vehicles in this incident.
The woman in the vehicle, who is known to the accused declined EHS at the scene and suffered minor facial injuries from an assault.
A 40 year old Halifax man is currently in custody at HRM Police Headquarters and will be transferred to court sometime today to face charges of assault, forcible confinement, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, violation of probation and flee police.
