Man Faces Weapons Charges

A man faces numerous weapons related charges following an incident last night in Halifax.

At 11:26 p.m., police received a 9-1-1 call from a residence on Catamaran Road in Halifax. A woman visiting the residence called police after a male occupant assaulted her and pointed a firearm at her. Police arrived on scene quickly and arrested the suspect as he was attempting to flee through the rear door of the residence. A subsequent search of the residence yielded one handgun, six long guns and a compound bow.

A 39-year-old Halifax man was held overnight and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to face the following charges:

CC 85(1) (a) – Use of a firearm in the commission of an offence

CC 86(1) – Careless use of a firearm

CC 86(2) – Unsafe storage of a firearm (seven counts)

CC 87(1) – Pointing a firearm

CC 88(1) – Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace

CC 92(1) – Possession of a firearm without license (seven counts)

CC 95(2) (a) – Possession of a prohibited firearm with readily available ammunition

CC 266 – Assault

CC 267(a) – Assault with a weapon
