Man faces weapons charges, Lunenburg County, N.S.

RCMP have a male in custody following an incident in Mahone Bay.

Yesterday evening, 7 p.m., RCMP were called to a motor vehicle collision on Main Street that had escalated into a disturbance.

While en route to the scene, officers learned that one of the parties was in possession of knives and a sledgehammer and threatened occupants of the other vehicle involved in the collision.

When officers arrived, they located a distraught male with two knives threatening to do harm to himself. Officers attempted to negotiate with the male but he would not surrender both knives. A CEW (conducted energy weapon) was deployed effectively; however, the male fell into a nearby river and had to be pulled out by two officers. He was treated at the South Shore Regional Hospital and later released to police custody.

A 47-year-old man is facing a number Criminal Code charges including Dangerous Driving, Uttering Threats, Possession of a Weapon and Assault with a Weapon. He remains in police custody and will appear in court on Monday, December 2nd, 2013.
