Man jumps into pond to escape Police

At 1:08 AM members of the Halifax Regional Police were on patrol in the area of 965 Bedford Hwy near Moirs Pond when they observed a male party acting in a suspicious manner.

The subject was approached and upon seeing police the subject jumped into the pond and swam away from the officers. The subject failed to heed the requests of the members to return to shore, eventually the subject began to tire and requested assistance. The members on scene had located a life preserver from a nearby dock at Dewolfe Park but the subject was now  beyond throwing distance for the preserver. As a result two officers had to enter the water and swim out to the subject who accepted the life preserver and was subsequently pulled safely to shore. The subject was then taken to hospital for a medical assessment.
