RCMP release:
RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment has arrested a man who barricaded himself inside a home in Eastern Passage.
On July 4, at approximately 3:35 p.m., RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment responded to a report of a man attempting to break and enter into a residence on Cow Bay Rd.
When officers arrived at the scene, the man had returned to a home on Orion Dr. and refused to exit. As a precaution, officers asked immediate neighbours to shelter in place, and an RCMP negotiator was brought in to assist.
The man then lit a fire inside the residence and officers called fires services to the scene.
After the RCMP Emergency Response Team arrived, the man exited the home; however, he refused to comply with officers’ instructions. He resisted arrest by assaulting the officers and a conducted energy weapon was then deployed. The man was safely taken into custody. He sustained minor injuries and was transported to hospital by EHS for assessment.
The man is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on July 7 to face charges of:
- Assaulting a Peace Officer (five counts)
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose (two counts)
- Resisting Arrest (two counts)
- Mischief (two counts)
- Failure to Comply with Undertaking
The investigation is ongoing.
