Man stabbed trying to prevent hit-and-run

Via RCMP:

Cumberland County District RCMP have arrested two people in relation to a stabbing.

On June 10, at 4:42 a.m., Cumberland County District RCMP were called to the 100-block of McGee St. in Springhill for a report that a vehicle had struck a parked car and that the driver and passenger were attempting to leave. A witness to the collision, a 50-year-old man from Springhill, attempted to stop them from leaving and was stabbed.

EHS also attended, and the man was transported to hospital with non-life threatening-injuries.

The suspects were identified as a 31-year-old woman and a 22-year-old old man, both from Springhill. Officers made extensive efforts to locate the suspects, but were unsuccessful.

On June 11, Cumberland County District RCMP located and safely arrested the woman. A warrant of arrest was obtained for the man.

Later that day, officers located the man and safely arrested him as well.

Spencer Hatton, 22, has been remanded into custody and will appear in Amherst Provincial Court on June 18 at 9:30 a.m. He is charged with Assault with a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, and Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm.

The 31-year-old woman was released on conditions to appear in Amherst Provincial Court on August 12, at 9:30 a.m. She is facing charges of Failing to Stop After an Accident and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.
