Man threatened with gun, rifle and body armor found in suspect’s home

Colchester County District RCMP has arrested a man for firearms offences after an incident in Lynn.

On July 4, 2022, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Colchester County District RCMP responded to a report of a man being threatened by another man. The victim advised that the suspect was in possession of a rifle at the time but had left the property in a vehicle. The victim advised that the suspect was from the Springhill area. RCMP officers from Colchester County District and Cumberland County District made attempts to locate the man throughout the evening and following morning but were unsuccessful.

At approximately 3 p.m. on July 5, the Cumberland County Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit (SCEU) located the suspect at a home in Springhill and he was safely arrested. A search warrant was later executed on the home and during the search RCMP officers seized a rifle, body armour, and clothing.

The suspect, a 54-year-old Springhill man, was later released on conditions and will appear Truro Provincial Court on October 5, 2022. The man will be facing charges of Careless Use of a Firearm, Unsafe Storage of a Firearm, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon.

The victim did not wish to proceed with charges of Uttering Threats.

The investigation is being lead Colchester County District RCMP with assistance from Colchester County District RCMP General Investigation Section, Cumberland County Integrated SCEU and Cumberland County District RCMP.
