AGNS Halifax

Ages 5-12

 

STUDIO ART CLASSES 

Monday, March 11 – Friday, March 15

Studio art classes for children and youth ages 5 – 12 are a favourite! Register for classes in drawing & painting, clay and mixed media taught by local artists and art educators who bring a wealth of talent and experience to each class. Experiment with a range of materials and ideas. Lots of fun, colour, and imagination!

 

Students can attend week-long sessions of full-day or half-day classes. Organized lunch time supervision at a nominal fee is provided for students attending full days. After school supervision is available until 4:45pm.

 

SCULPTURAL MYSTICAL LANDS with artist MIRO DAVIS 

Welcome to your magical imagination! Create live habitats for mystical creatures with gardens and lands of rocks, plants and earth. Mosaic their water pools, twisting pathways, and other surprises with glass, beads and other odds and ends. Sculpt your creatures to life with clay and recycled treasures…then introduce them to their magical homes!

ANIMATION ZOO with artist SUSAN WOLF

Learn the basics of animation while letting your imagination run wild! Throughout the week, we’ll create wacky characters and bring them to life using cutout, pixilation, and claymation techniques.  Best of all, we’ll work in teams to create our own short animated films.  Participants will also get to watch a special selection of experimental animations to get a taste of the possibilities.

MARCH BREAK MIXED MEDIA with artist MARGARITA FAINSHTEIN

This art class focuses on the joyful process of art making and the incredible experience of having created something new. Students will express themselves using a wide range of art techniques in drawing, printmaking, collage, and painting. Explorations into the Gallery will add richness to this fun learning experience!

CREATE WITH CLAY! with artist BETHANY RIORDAN-BUTTERWORTH

Using a variety of processes and techniques including building by hand and using the wheel, students will create functional and sculptural clay works.  By visiting artworks throughout the gallery, students will make artworks inspired by what they see. There will also be time to explore surface decoration, pattern and colour!

PROGRAM INFORMATION

• Class size is limited to 14 participants unless there is more than one instructor.
• Students are to be dropped off and picked up from the Education Centre on the first floor of AGNS Gallery South.  We are able to provide supervision before 8:45 am.
• After class supervision is available for an additional fee until 4:45pm.
• Lunchtime supervision is available for an additional fee for full-day students only as space is limited.  Please have students bring their lunch.  No peanut products please.
• It is suggested that students pack a snack for mid-morning and/or mid-afternoon.  No peanut products please.
• Art making can be messy so students remember to wear “work” clothes.

 

REGISTRATION + FEES
Week-long Classes:  Non-members $125.00 per week for half-days; $250.00 for full-day classes. Gallery Members $112.00 per week for half-days; $225.00 for full day classes. (+ HST for all classes).
ALL MATERIALS INCLUDED.

An additional fee of $15 (non-members), $10 (Gallery members) per week will be charged for lunch supervision for students attending full-day classes. After class supervision additional fee is $10.

 If there is insufficient registration, a workshop will be cancelled with fees refunded.  There is a 10% non-refundable registration fee.  There are no refunds two weeks prior to the class.  

 

 

Artech Camp

 

Would you like to spend March Break producing your own Animations? Creating your own Video Game Design? building a Robot? Or designing your own web page? 

 

Want to create your own Video Games? Animations? Learn how to apply special effects? And work with sound? Join us for our March Media Marathon! There will be instruction in Animation, Video Game design and Digital Graphics. Complete the week by designing your own Web Page and uploading your finished products to the Web for all your friends and family to see!

 

Price: $337 plus hst – Register early and save $25!

The Shambhala School is located at 5450 Russell Street. There is ample parking on Russell street for morning drop-offs and after noon pick-ups.

 

Want to create your own Animations? Video Games? This will be a week of high-tech adventure and state-of-the-art fun! We’ll look at creating some action filled animated movies. Create characters from clay, props and backgrounds from paper, cardboard and other materials. You will get to design your own characters and monsters for video games. And build Lego Robots that can be programmed to move, dance and race! Note for Parents: Activities take place both on and off the computers (about half and half).

Atlantic Cirque – CAMP IS NOW FULL FOR 2013 but we are offering evening workshops, check the website


Every day from 9am to 4pm, the students will learn everything from trampoline, juggling, stilts, human pyramids, aerial apparatus (trapeze, cerceau, rope) and more. We also play camp games, watch Cirque du Soleil videos after lunch and prepare a show for the end of the week! On Friday afternoon at 3pm, parents and family are invited to our show!


MARCH BREAK CAMP 2012 For ages 7 – 12 –

Come learn trapeze, trampoline, acrobatics, juggling, human pyramids, stilt walking, flying rope, aerial silks, aerial cerceau, spanish web, contortion, handstands, spinning plates techniques and much more!

Price is $275 for the full week 

 

Dalplex 

Dalhousie day camps provide parents with the opportunity to choose from a variety of sport or recreational options for their kids, all designed to be challenging, fun, and educational.


March Break camps are offered from March 4-8 & 11-15 for kids and teens, ages 5-15, and include the following options:

 

Climb 1-4 Camps


Climb 1-2 (ages 5-12)

This camp focuses on rope safety, belaying, knots and learning about bouldering movement. Campers will have an opportunity to rappel, rope climb, boulder and swim in the pool while working towards earning their Climb 1 & 2 badges.

 

Climb 3-4 (ages 7-15)

This camp provides an opportunity to learn advanced movement and strategy for moving on steeper walls or with more advanced rope skills. Campers will have an opportunity to boulder, rope climb and swim in the pool while working towards earning their Climb 3 & 4 badges.

 

Active Kids Camp

For ages 5-10

The Active Kids Camps are a great way to shake those winter blues and keep your kids active, busy and having fun while learning about healthy lifestyles in a week-long camp format.

Campers will participate in a variety of sports and activities while developing leadership and teamwork skills and making new friends. Specific sports vary from day-to-day but options include soccer, basketball, floor hockey, soccer-baseball, track and field and swimming.

 

Dal Tigers Basketball Camp

For ages 8-14

Dal Tigers basketball camps provide an introduction to the game for novice players and an opportunity for more advanced players to enhance fundamental skills.

Players will receive an evaluation report at the conclusion of camp and a swim in the pool every afternoon.

 

General Camp Information

Camp drop-off is from 8:15-9am and pick-up is from 4:30-5:15pm.

If you require an earlier drop-off or later pick-up time, contact the supervisor of your specific camp to see if we can facilitate your request.

Campers must provide their own snacks and lunches.

Grab your passport, we’re taking off! Our young travellers will look to visit every corner of the Earth, learning about different cultures along the way as they take part in a fun and wild scientific adventure. Discover how some animals and plants can survive in the harshest of environments while tracing the steps of some of the most famous explorers around the globe. Why travel only South this March Break?!

Imagination Celebration
March 11-15, 2013, Ages 6-12
 
Let your imagination run wild this March Break with dance, music and art! The sky is the limit to creativity in the studios at Halifax Dance while learning and practicing the art of movement. Each day will begin with themed games and imaginative challenges to warm up the minds and bodies of our young dancers. Join us for a fun filled week of classes in Creative Movement, Hip Hop, Drumming and Jazz. Each day will end with “Sorts of Arts” where you will explore different types of artistic challenges, including craft making, individual dance creation, improvisation and more!

Lunch/Snack Breaks
There will be a 15 minute morning snack break, a one-hour lunch break at 12:00, and a 15 minute afternoon snack break. Children are required to bring their own snacks and lunches. Don’t forget your water!
 
What to wear
Children are encouraged to wear comfortable active wear or dance wear. They can be in sock feet, dance shoes or indoor sneakers. No outdoor footwear is permitted in the studios.

4-6 Fairytales & Legends

Ages 4-6   

 

Join us as we go back to a time when Kings, Princesses, Knights and Dragons ruled the world! During this week long camp we will use a mixture of theatre games, music and stories to develop our own characters and then, using our skills of co-operation, create a special adventurous world that parents and friends can visit on the final day of class.

 

4-6 Superheroes

Ages 4-6

Superman, Wonder Woman, Spiderman and more! Come join us as we take inspiration from some of the world's best-known superheroes and play games and sing songs about being a Superhero. Then we'll put together a short superhero play to show off our secret abilities to family and friends on the last day of class.

 

7-9 Wizards of Neptune Theatre

Ages  7-9

Forget the Wizards of Waverly Place, you'll be the Wizards of Neptune Theatre as we create spells, learn magic and create our own magical adventure that we will present to family and friends on the last day of class!

 

7-9 Mystery Theatre

Ages 7-9

Everyone loves a good mystery! Inspired by Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys and Harriet the Spy we will create our own theatrical mystery that we'll present to family and friends on the last day of class!

 

10-12 Collective Creation

Ages 10-12

In this collective creation drama class you are the actor, playwright and director. Using a few props and costumes and a lot of imagination you and your fellow performers will create a piece of theatre that you will share with family and friends on the final day of the class.

 

13-18 Stories Alive

Ages 13-18

The focus of this acting workshop is on using true stories, ghosts or otherwise, to create a new piece of theatre. Through a physically active, creative approach to theatre, students will work on developing stage confidence as well as physical and vocal control. There will be a strong empasis on collaboration and the fundamentals of acting.

There are no refunds once the camp/class has begun. All refunds issued are subject to a $35 administrative fee.

Creative Comics

Comics bring together the arts of storytelling and illustration. Students learn to give expression, action and motion to their characters as they create cartoons and comic strips. The class also reviews the basics of paneling and composition, and studies the widely divergent styles of cartooning, comics and graphic novels. Young artists are encouraged to expand upon their drawing and cartooning skills and to develop their own signature styles.

Magical Myths, Fairytales, & Legends

Exploring imagination and creativity through a range of art forms including drawing, painting, sculpting, collage, photography and more. Fundamental techniques will be emphasized in combination with encouraging and developing unique forms of expression. Students will work on individual and group projects, combining mediums to make fun creations that will push their imaginations to new exciting realms of exploration.

Reduce, Reuse, Re-story

The students registered for this course will be encouraged to think creatively about reusing materials in their artist practice. As our global conservation conscience is as present as ever, we are starting to develop innovative ideas about using what we have available to us in new ways in order to reduce consumption and waste, and it is especially important to begin cultivating this specific stream of creativity in our youth. This course will teach young artists how to create a story from start to finish–plotline, illustrations, and the book itself,–all from previously used sources. Storylines will be recycled from other narratives by renowned writers and famous tales, illustrations will be assembled by experimenting with different types of supplies and textiles, and the book itself will utilize common household materials in new ways to create pages, covers, and binding.

Urban Art

This class will provide students with an opportunity to examine contemporary Urban Art. Students will experiment with letter abstraction & personal styling, urban character illustrations, and various spray paint techniques. Creative Sketchbook

Develop your sketchbook into a creative, investigative and personal art book.  Working with a variety of media, applications and approaches, students will utilize creative imagery through projects involving drawing, painting, collecting artifacts, and collage. Additionally, students will learn ways of recording ideas, experiences, and personal reflections in order to develop content. Creative Sketchbook is a great option for those wishing to build their portfolio if applying to a visual arts college, as well as for those who want to enhance their day-to-day sketching skills.

Drawing & Painting

Students will become familiar with concepts, skills and materials that are basic to painting, and will learn how drawing can play an important role in painting. The perfect way to spend a day during March Break. Great for kids and parents to improve their skiing or snowboarding skills. The March Break Day camp are also a great way for kids and parents to try skiing and snowboarding for the first time.

Oxford Learning

 

A typical day includes individualized academic programming in the morning followed by interactive, hands-on science experiments and other fun, educational activities in the afternoon. Camp is offered for students in Primary through Grade 6. The cost is $250/week or $60/day. A 10% discount is offered for siblings. Camp runs from 9am to 4pm daily.
