Another five Nova Scotia companies and two New Brunswick companies have been awarded the latest contracts for the Dartmouth General Hospital’s expansion and renovation.
Government awarded a second set of contracts for the third construction services tender today, April 5, as part of the QEII redevelopment project.
The companies are:
— Guild Contracting Specialties (2005) Inc., Dartmouth
— Coastal Woodworkers Ltd., Dartmouth
— Dantra Specialty Products, Dartmouth
— Duron Atlantic Limited, Dartmouth
— Twin City Painting (1979) Limited, Dartmouth
— Northfield Glass Group Ltd., Moncton
— Apex Industries, Moncton
These contracts are for the construction of the interior of the new addition and renovations within the existing hospital. Work includes fireproofing, millwork, wall coverings, high performance coatings, painting, aluminum entrance, doors and frames.
The total cost of these tenders is more than $5.1 million. The first set of contracts was awarded last week. The remaining four contracts for these services will be awarded later this spring.
The expansion and renovations will result in the addition of 48 beds on the fifth floor, eight new operating rooms to replace four existing operating rooms and a new outpatient care space. The work also includes extensive upgrades to the entrance and diagnostic imaging areas.
The QEII redevelopment project also includes the expansion and renovations at the Halifax Infirmary, new and renovated operating rooms at Hants Community Hospital in Windsor and the construction of a new community outpatient centre in Bayers Lake. This work will allow services to be moved out of the Centennial and Victoria buildings on the Victoria General site, to prepare for their eventual closure.
