Martello Street, Halifax to be renamed Cathedral Lane

Tuesday, June 28, 2016 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that beginning Wednesday, June 29, 2016, Martello Street in Halifax will be renamed Cathedral Lane.

In accordance with the municipal civic addressing policy, street renaming requests can be made by property owners where there are no existing public safety concerns with the street name. The policy further states that for these types of requests, the Civic Addressing Coordinator shall only proceed with the application if there is unanimous support from the property owners for the proposed change.

The name “Cathedral Lane” was chosen as the Cathedral Church of All Saints is on this street.

Regional Council approved the street renaming at its meeting on March 8, 2016.
