Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents and motorists the McQuarrie Bridge in Fall River will reopen to a full flow of traffic this afternoon at 4 p.m.
The thoroughfare has been closed since July 12 to facilitate the replacement of the ageing bridge.
While traffic will resume over the new bridge in both directions this afternoon, work crews will continue at the site until mid-September to install guardrails, do utility work, and overall clean-up. This will result in stop-and-go traffic from time to time while work is underway.
Detour signs will come down once the bridge opens and the temporary stop signs at the intersection of Windsor Junction and Cobequid roads will be removed within the next week as motorists begin repopulating their old route over the McQuarrie Bridge.
The municipality apologizes to commuters for the inconvenience this work caused, but overall there is now a safer roadway for both motorists and pedestrians.
