There is still time to recognize people who have put their lives at risk to protect others.

Nominations are open until May 1 for Nova Scotia’s seventh annual Medal of Bravery awards.

“I encourage people to nominate those who have displayed great courage,” said Premier Stephen McNeil.

“I know there are Nova Scotians who have gone above and beyond, risking their own safety to help others in need. We want to recognize those acts of bravery and, hopefully, inspire other Nova Scotians to do the same should the situation arise.”

An advisory panel, chaired by retired vice-admiral Duncan Miller, selects the recipients.

— Nova Scotia Fire Marshal
— president of the Nova Scotia Chiefs of Police Association
— commander of Land Force Atlantic Area
— Ann MacLean, former mayor, Town of New Glasgow
— Paul Pettipas, CEO, Nova Scotia Home Builders Association

To be considered for the award, acts of bravery must have occurred on, or after, Jan. 1, 2007. Nomination forms are available at Access Nova Scotia centres, offices of members of the legislative assembly and online.
