Visitors will have a chance to learn about Merlin the rainbow macaw on his 12th birthday at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Halifax, Saturday, May 17.
“Merlin has friends from all over the world that leave comments on his website and send him presents,” said Richard MacMichael, senior interpreter, otherwise known as the parrot whisperer at the museum.
“His live webcam has brought together a group of people who might never have met if it weren’t for their shared love of Merlin.”
The festivities start at 9:30 a.m. with a scavenger hunt and continue at 1 p.m. with arts and crafts in the Small Craft Gallery. At 3 p.m., Merlin will open presents and take a bath in front of people at the museum and online at http://www.novascotiawebcams.com/special/merlin-live-stream.html .
“Merlin represents the friendly, vibrant atmosphere of the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic,” said Communities, Culture and Heritage Minister Tony Ince. “I am proud of the excellent care Merlin receives from staff and faculty, and hopefully he will continue welcoming and entertaining visitors for many more years to come.”
