It’s definitely not pretty but it gave my son Aidan a chance to practice his fine motor skills by using a knife to slather peanut butter onto pine cones and have fun getting messy.
My boys and I spent the morning searching for pine cones during our morning walk, came home tied the pine cones with string, Aidan slathered on the peanut butter, rolled them in birdseed and voila – an instant bird feeder that my 3.5 year old feels so proud to have made all by himself.

Lay them on parchment paper until you’re finished the last one. At this point you could pop them in the freezer to harden them so they’re easier to handle and hang up outside, but we were too excited so we skipped that step. We were already covered in peanut butter anyhow 🙂

We’re not entirely sure if the birdies like them yet, but it was a fun craft that ate up the morning {nice long walk looking for pine cones} then kept Aidan busy for about 45 minutes in the afternoon.
