Military Employer Support Awards

Lt.-Gov. J.J. Grant presented the Canadian Forces Liaison Council awards at Government House today, March 8.

The awards recognized employers from Nova Scotia who have supported their reservist employees by allowing them to undergo military training and deploy on military operations without impacting their civilian employment or education.

“I am delighted to recognize these outstanding employers who have demonstrated leadership by supporting their reservist employees,” said Lt.-Gov. Grant. “I speak from personal experience when I say that reservists bring valuable skill sets learned through their military training and employment to the civilian workplace and the organizations we recognize tonight have shown remarkable insight by recognizing these skills.”

Ten Nova Scotia-based organizations were recognized for their best practices in reservist employee and student reservist support. They are:

— Service Canada
— Lorway MacEachern Barristers and Solicitors
— Emergency Services – Sheriff Services, Nova Scotia Department of Justice
— Defence Research and Development Canada, Atlantic Research Centre
— Canada Revenue Agency
— Garian Construction
— IWK Health Centre
— Wajax Equipment
— McInnes Cooper
— Dalhousie University

The Canadian Forces Liaison Council is a Canada-wide group of civilian business leaders who volunteer their time and efforts to promote the Canadian Forces Reserves by highlighting the benefits of reserve force training and experience to the civilian workplace and educational institutions.

Reservists themselves nominate their employers and educators and the awards are presented every two years.
