Halifax, NS, July 24, 2013 – Immediately on the heels of moving the iconic department store to Spring Garden Place earlier this month, the four owners of Mills announced today they will acquire downtown shoe store Kick Ass Shoes (KAS) from its founder, Sonia Felix.

Mills will acquire the Kick Ass Shoes inventory, which includes shoe lines such as Cole Haan, Hunter, Steve Madden, Kate Spade, TOMS, and Nine West, to name a few. Mills also purchased the KAS handbag inventory, including Marc by Marc Jacobs.

“Sonia built an incredible portfolio of great women’s shoe brands that really added to the fashion scene in Halifax. Mills customers would often run across the street to find the right pair of heels to go with a fabulous outfit, said Lisa Gallivan, one of the owners of Mills.

“Acquiring Kick Ass Shoes takes the Mills shoe department to the next level with a larger selection of brands and shoes at all price points. Mills customers can buy a fantastic outfit, and complement it with the right shoes, bag and accessories… all in our beautiful new location,” she added.

The current Kick Ass Shoes location will close and its inventory will move to Mills’ in Spring Garden Place by August 1, 2013.

Kick Ass Shoes has been operating on the corner of Spring Garden Road and Queen Street since 2004. Felix decided to sell KAS to focus on her expanding generational family healthcare businesses.

“Although it was a decision fraught with mixed emotions, I realized I had achieved what I set out to do – to bring a higher sense of fashion and awareness of brands in the shoe industry to Halifax, in an environment that made shopping fun and service-oriented,” said Felix. “The Mills owners are a perfect fit to take over what I started and take it to the next level. Mills will offer a full compliment of shoes, handbags, accessories, clothing and beauty as part of a ‘one-stop-shopping’ experience. I’m confident knowing that the Kick Ass Shoes brand will continue under expert guidance in the new Mills location in Spring Garden Place.”

Gallivan said she and her partners at Mills are doing their bit to support a return to the elegance and vibrancy of Spring Garden Road and its surrounding streets.

“We want women to be able to find the beautiful clothing and shoes they see in magazines. And we want them to be able to walk down Spring Garden Road, see the shops, have lunch, try on beautiful shoes, stop for a coffee and see people they know. That’s all part of living in a vibrant city like Halifax,” Gallivan explained.
