Families in every region of the province are showing their Acadian and francophone pride for National Acadian Day, today, Aug. 15.
Acadian Affairs Minister David Wilson was joined by members of the Acadian and francophone community at Province House to raise the Acadian flag.
“National Acadian Day is truly a celebration of the cultural vitality and enduring heritage of the Acadian people,” said Mr. Wilson. “The story of the Acadian people is one of great resilience, and I am proud to recognize the extraordinary impact that Acadian and francophone culture has had on our province.”
“The National Acadian Day is the perfect occasion to celebrate our achievements, our heritage and our contribution to the development of Nova Scotia,” said Justin Mury, president of the Fédération acadienne de la Nouvelle-Écosse. “We wish all people of Acadian descent and our larger community a very happy Acadian Day.”
As a division of the department of Communities, Culture and Heritage, Acadian Affairs contributes to the preservation and growth of Nova Scotia’s Acadian and francophone communities by advising and supporting government efforts to offer services in French.
