Missing hunter located, Cumberland County, N.S.

Cumberland County District RCMP located a lost hunter in the Mattatal Lake area earlier this evening. At approximately 6:00 p.m. today, Cumberland County District RCMP received a 911 call from a lost hunter in the Mattatal Lake area.

At approximately 6:00 p.m. today, Cumberland County District RCMP received a 911 call from a lost hunter in the Mattatal Lake area.

The 74-year-old male had gone into the woods at approximately 2:00 p.m. and was unable to find his way back due to darkness. The male used his cell phone to call for assistance and to guide police to where he had entered the woods. Cumberland County District RCMP located the lost man’s vehicle and were able to obtain his position via GPS coordinates obtained through his cellphone. Springhill and Pugwash GSAR were activated and an RCMP Police Service Dog was dispatched.

At approximately 9:40 p.m., an RCMP officer, along with RCMP Police Service Dog and handler, with the assistance of GSAR. located the lost hunter approximately 1.5 kms from his vehicle. The lost hunter was transported out of the woods by GSAR and assessed by Emergency Health Services. Aside from being cold, tired and wet, the lost hunter was in good health.
