Portable and permanent heating appliances manufactured by Ouellet, Global Commander and Electrimart recalled due to fire hazard

This recall concerns portable and permanent heating appliances manufactured by Ouellet, Global Commander and Electrimart. This notice concerns 4,800 and 5,000 watt appliances manufactured before April 2016 (2016-04-01). The colour of these appliances may vary, and the production label with the model number may be found on the front or back of the appliance.

Hazard identified: The heating elements of the portable and permanent heating appliances may be defective, posing an electrical arcing and fire hazard. As of April 1, 2019, the company has received 26 reports of fire; no injuries were reported in Canada

Consumers should disconnect and stop using the portable and permanent heating appliances immediately. Ouellet Canada Inc. may be contacted to obtain a rebate on a replacement appliance.

Stelpro Design and Uniwatt construction heaters recalled due to fire hazard

This recall concerns 4,800 watt construction heaters manufactured by Stelpro Design and Uniwatt. The heaters were manufactured between January 2000 and April 2009. The model number and manufacturing date are indicated on a plaque on the back of the appliance.

Hazard identified: The heating elements of the construction heaters may be defective, posing an electrical arcing and fire hazard. As of April 2, 2019, the company has received eight reports of fire; no injuries were reported in Canada.

Consumers should disconnect and stop using the recalled heaters immediately. Stelpro Design Inc. may be contacted to obtain a rebate on a replacement appliance.

The affected products are electric construction heaters sold under the Chromalox, Centurion, Electromode, Westcan and Dimplex brands. The affected units are 240 Volt, 4800 Watt, with a 30 Amp plug. The model numbers and production dates affected are listed below. The model number and the production date code can be found on the manufacturing label on the back of the unit.

Hazard identified: The heating elements of the heaters can fail, posing an electrical arc and fire hazard. As of April 3, 2019, the company has received 36 reports of the heating element failing causing damage to the unit and/or to property in Canada. No injuries have been reported.
