MORE THAN 650 PEOPLE ARE WORKING TO RESTORE POWER FOLLOWING A MAJOR WINTER STORM THAT ROLLED THROUGH NOVA SCOTIA ON CHRISTMAS DAY AND INTO THE EARLY MORNING HOURS OF BOXING DAY.

STRONG WINDS GUSTING ABOVE 100 KM PER HOUR CAUSED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICITY SYSTEM. WINDS CAUSED TREES TO FALL INTO POWER LINES, BREAKING UTILITY POLES AND SNAPPING LINES.

NOVA SCOTIA POWER STORM LEAD MATT DROVER SAID THE UTILITY HAS SAFELY RESTORED POWER TO MORE THAN 95,000 CUSTOMERS SINCE THE STORM HIT YESTERDAY.

ADDITIONAL CONTRACTOR CREWS HAVE BEEN BROUGHT IN FROM NOVA SCOTIA AND NEW BRUNSWICK TO ASSIST WITH STORM RESTORATION EFFORTS. EVEN WITH EXTRA CREWS, NOVA SCOTIA POWER ESTIMATES THE VAST MAJORITY OF CUSTOMERS WILL BE RESTORED BY NOON ON WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 27TH, DUE TO THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE.

THE LATEST ESTIMATED RESTORATION TIMES FOR EACH AREA OF THE PROVINCE CAN BE FOUND ONLINE AT OUTAGEMAP-DOT-NSPOWER-dotCA.

AS UTILITY CONTINUES TO ASSESS DAMAGE THROUGHOUT THE DAY, THESE ESTIMATES MAY BE UPDATED. CUSTOMERS ARE ASKED TO STAY SAFE BY TREATING ALL DOWNED LINES AS ELECTRIFIED. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM DOWNED ELECTRIAL EQUIPMENT AND REPORT THEM TO NOVA SCOTIA POWER AT 1-877-428-6004.

DROVER SAYS THE UTILITY WILL WORK AROUND THE CLOCK UNTIL ALL CUSTOMERS HAVE THEIR POWER BACK, AND THANKS CUSTOMERS FOR THEIR PATIENCE AS CREWS WORK SAFELY TO RESTORE POWER AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. CUSTOMERS SHOULD CONTINUE TO REPORT OUTAGES TO NOVA SCOTIA POWER AT 1-877-428-6004 AND STAY TUNED TO THE OUTAGE MAP ON NSPOWER-DOT-CA FOR THE LATEST ESTIMATED RESTORATION TIMES.
