At approximately 11:45 a.m. today, Colchester County RCMP responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a gravel truck and Honda Civic on the 311 Highway in Balfron.
The Honda Civic was travelling southbound on the 311 Highway when it attempted to turn into a driveway. At the same time, a northbound gravel truck collided with the Honda Civic. After the collision, both vehicles came to a stopped position on the eastern side of the roadway.
The lone occupant and male driver of the gravel truck was trapped in the vehicle. He was extracted at scene by fire fighters and taken by Life Flight to the QEII hospital in Halifax. It is believed he has serious leg injuries. It is not believed his injuries are life threatening.
The two occupants of the Honda Civic sustained minor injuries. They were able to travel to Truro Hospital after being checked at scene by EHS paramedics.
There are no charges pending at this time.
An RCMP Collision Analyst is at scene and the highway is blocked. The highway will reopen when the gravel truck and its contents are moved. It is expected the highway will be closed for approximately 3 hours.
The detour is as follows: The Highway 311 is closed between Highway 256 and Willow Church Road . Traffic is being detoured at Highway 256 & Matheson Brook Rd.
